UK ELF Clio Cup 2006 at Snetterton – ROUND 13+14
Niki Lanik was over in Snetterton racing for the “Drive 4 Life – be drug-free” Racing Team. Supporting the British Touring Car Championship, Niki qualified 8th and 7th for the two rounds, being only 0.3 seconds off 2nd fastest qualifier, former champion Paul Rivett. It was a good start to the weekend.
Niki’s first race, being his first ever race in extreme rainy conditions, starting 8th he lost some places on the first lap, avoiding contact with others. As the weather worsened even much more experienced Clio racers were spinning off the track. Niki, also having a spin on lap 8 managed to recover and finish 11th.
Sunday’s race was much more important, with live TV coverage on Motors TV (SKY channel #413) and 10,000+ spectators viewing the race in the beautiful sunshine. Niki, starting 7th on the grid had an average start and lost 2 places by the first corner. Niki fought his way past Nick Adcock (former race winner) earning him, once again, the “Driver of the Day” award, and finishing a fine 7th. Niki and the Drive 4 Life Racing Team will have their next two races at the Renault World Series at Donington Park on the 9th & 10th of September, which attracts live TV coverage and 45,000+ spectators.
“Drive 4 Life – be drug-free” is a new national health and anti-drug campaign started and managed by Dorothea Eicker and Gary Byrne. For more information visit www.drive4life.tv
