“Ashurst Wood driver Niki Lanik took plenty of positives despite a share of disappointment when competing in front of 90,000 fans in the ELF Clio Cup at Donington Park.”

“Lanik, 20, was looking sharp in qualifying where he initially made pole position, only to be knocked down to tenth due to some problems with a faulty timing system.”

“In race one he was soon up to seventh place before being hit from behind which saw him drop to 16th before eventually finished 11th.”

“Starting 21st on the grid for the second race, Lanik was up to 15th place after the first corner following a great sart but his race ended with a blown radiator.”

“He said: ‘It was cool but not cool. I was involved in some great racing in front of the television cameras.”

“Lanik’s ‘insane’ race”

“MOTORSPORT: Niki Lanik, from Ashurst Wood, reigning 2006 Clio Cup Winter Champion, and the Youth 4 Human Rights UK Car Racing Team supported the Renault World Series last weekend, at Donington Park, in Derbyshire.”

“Wednesday’s test day went very well for Lanik, being fifth quickest out of 38 Clio racers.”

” ‘It was an insane weekend’, he [Niki Lanik] said, ‘From pole position to 10th on the grid, being knocked off the track, then charging through the field, and so on. I just have to get everything perfect one one weekend, and unfortunately that’s much easier said than done.’ ”

UK ELF Clio Cup 2007 at Donington – ROUND 10

NIKI Lanik, reigning 2006 Clio Cup Winter Champion, and the Youth 4 Human Rights UK Car Racing Team supported the Renault World Series last weekend at Donington Park in Derbyshire. The youngster was the first ever Austrian to secure pole position in the UK ELF Clio Cup. The event attracted over 130,000 live spectators over the weekend and was broadcasted live around the globe, making this one of Britain’s largest and most successful motorsport events of 2007.

Wednesday’s test day went very well for Lanik, being 5th quickest out of 38 Clio racers. “It’s always good to be quick on test days, especially when I set good times on old rubber.” commented the young Ashurst Wood race driver, “Qualifying should go well once I’m on brand new slick tyres!” Colin Stancombe, chief engineer and team owner of Stancombe Vehicle Engineering [Niki’s engineering team] was extremely impressed with the young racer’s driving.

“Donington date looms large for Lanik”

“Ashurst Wood racing driver Niki Lanik is gearing up for the biggest race meeting of his career so far as the ELF Renault Clio Cup prepares for its ninth event of the year this weekend.”

“Lanik is set to race for the Youth 4 Human Rights with SVE team in front of an anticipated crowd in excess of 100,000 and its determined to put on a strong showing at the event.”
