NIKI LANIK tests SEAT Supercopa-spec Leon at Castle Combe

AUSTRIAN racing driver, Niki Lanik, who lives in Ashurst Wood in West Sussex, successfully tested a Seat Leon Supercopa cup car at Castle Combe near Bristol. Despite having to learn a new track and car, the 21-year-old set a series of top lap times through out his two 30-minute sessions in the afternoon, only just behind the 2008 Spanish Seat Champion. Race-winning Niki Lanik, currently having not made a career decision for 2009, is considering competing in the Seat Leon Supercopa Championship – a new UK-based championship with Seat touring car-equivalent race cars and value for money.

LANIK, having plenty of experience in front-engine/front-wheel-drive race cars, was quickly up to speed in the Seatsport Spain-tuned Leon. The Lean is powered by a 300 horsepower 2.0 Litre turbo-charged engine and weighs around 1260Kg. With upgraded tyres, brakes, aerodynamic kit, and a 6-speed paddle shift racing gearbox, this car has phenomenal pace and performs with a similar pace to a BTCC race car. The downforce created by the wings and non-servo brake system makes the car a work-out to drive. Seatsport Spain is supplying all spare and upgrade parts to the UK Seat Leon Championship.

“2009 is a difficult year for most people due to the world’s financial crisis.” comments the Austrian racing driver, Niki Lanik: “I am researching UK and European championships so I am able to choose the most cost effective and best career path.”

Niki Lanik would like to acknowledge and thank the following people and teams for making the Castle Combe test day a successful and fun day out:
