PORSCHE test at Magny-Cours

Niki Lanik tested at Magny-Cours, this is what he had to say:

“I flew out to Paris Tuesday evening with my manager and we made our way down to Magny-Cours, the French Grand Prix track. I got there very late, had a short sleep, and was up early for breakfast this morning - around 7:30am.”

“I hadn’t yet been to Magny-Cours and this was only my third visit to a European track this season. I have heard many things about Magny-Cours, and of course once you drive your first lap it’s totally differnent to what everyone had told you. I did ten to fifteen laps around the circuit to get used to car and the track. This specific Grand Prix track is the best I have driven. It has fantastic corners, fast and slow, and cambered both ways - the kerbs are great to use as well.”

“The team then put on a new set of tyres on for me which worked beautifully. I did a 10-lap stint and set very good lap times. The car was set-up well too, so driving consistently fast laps was not a problem. It felt perfect. Another driver then did a 10-lap stint to set a bench mark - he is a professional GT1 driver, and very fit too. His best lap was 0.49 quicker than my fastest lap, of which I lost this time in the first three corners. I was pretty happy about this and was looking forward to the afternoon session.”

“After lunch the weather had changed a little bit and it started drizzling slightly. Unfortunately I could not improve my lap times from before lunch, as the humidity in the air changed the conditions of the track - I was around 1.5 seconds slower per lap. The team and I then decided it would be a good idea to test different rebound settings on the dampers, anti-roll bar settings and the rear-wing angle. This proved to by very successful as I was able to feel the car behave differentlyl from corner to corner. In fact, this put up my confidence on driving the car by quite a bit.”

“I am training hard in the gym three to five times a week with a personal trainer and by myself to get as fit as possible for the next race, which will be in Oschersleben in Germany on the 20th and 21st of June.”
